STARLIGHT's Story

Cockatiels can be social, cuddly, goofy, and tend to love whistling! Native to the semi-arid regions of Australia, these ground foraging birds can live up to 20 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion. Cockatiels tend to not be major talkers, but instead prefer to chirp or whistle. We recommend that cockatiels live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Cockatiels can live up to 20 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion. We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of 1⁄2” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. As natural foragers, cockatiels may benefit from having their food scattered at the bottom of their cage to allow for extra enrichment and to satisfy their natural instincts. The needs of each cockatiel are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the cockatiel you are interested in, please give us a call! We are happy to provide guidance and advice. * If you think you are a good fit, stop by Tues-Sun from 1-4 during our open hours!
