Shadow's Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hatch Date: Approx 1992Shadow is a 32yo DNA confirmed male, special needs Congo African Grey. He was with one female caregiver his entire life and has strong preferences for females or those with long hair. Shadow has extreme lameless in his right foot, causing it to potentially clench. This could be due to an old injury or developing arthritis. To help maintain comfort and some mobility, Shadow gets anti inflamatories twice daily. He does have mobility of his foot and can open it normally to walk or perch just fine. His enclosure has plenty of wide perches to make it easy for him to get around. He does like being at the bottom of his enclosure as well - he sleeps there overnight. Shadow has a great diet of Zupreem and Harrisons pellets and loves fruits and vegetables. Corn, green apples and grapes are his current favorite.Shadow has an insatiable appetite for playing with toys - especially ones with bells, rope or croc shoe. He typically goes through at least one new toy every few days. Even with his handicap, Shadow does frequently climb off his cage to walk around on the floor. As with any bird, he can be destructive to molding, furniture, etc. As such he will need constant supervision so he does not get into trouble, or go into a cavity (under a dresser, in a closest, etc) which promotes hormonal behaviors. He will sometimes attempt to fly however the floor catches him quickly. Due to his special needs and preferences, we are looking for Shadow's adoptive family to have a female primary caregiver. He has been around dogs and cats but as he likes to get into mischief, it is prefered he can be kept separate from them in an adoptive home. His forever home must have bird experience with solid vet history as Shadow will need continued health care.
Shadow is being fostered in Parsippany, NJ, and it will be necessary to drive to do the required visit. At least 3 visits will be required to adopt Shadow. We will NOT ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA, we have no central location. As our adoptable birds are living in volunteers’ homes, or in their family's home, we only allow approved applicants to meet our birds.

If interested in meeting Shadow, please review our adoption policies, and complete an adoption application on our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org.
