Scarlett's Story

Scarlett is a 24 year old female double yellow-headed Amazon parrot. As with many relinquishers, her original family was faced with medical challenges which made it hard to provide enough time and resources for Scarlett. It's hard to care for a long-lived bird all their lives!

Like many captive parrots, especially Amazons, they don't get the exercise that their bodies were built to endure. So Scarlett is on heart meds, very common for many parrots in our homes. Scarlett's feathers are not clipped, so she could fly, but currently does not. Maybe she could learn?

She says "hello" and "tickle-tickle", and she enjoys singing and laughing.

Birdie bagels and wood slat toys are her favorite.

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, many other birds are waiting for our help and are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family too. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots.

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt
