Quico's Story
Quico — Found right in the middle of a busy Chicago road, still and dazed while cars rushed past. Somehow, against all odds, this dark-feathered little survivor made it out alive. When rescuers scooped him up, it was clear something was wrong — his head tilted slightly, his balance unsteady, his body working hard to remember how to be a bird again. Neurological trauma can be unpredictable, but Quico never seemed discouraged. If anything, he looked determined — like someone who had decided life was still worth the effort.<br/>In recovery, he’s been rediscovering his rhythm — one careful hop, one proud stretch, one triumphant flap at a time. Sometimes his balance wobbles, and sometimes he spins in a slow, uncertain circle before finding his footing again. But Quico doesn’t give up; he just shakes it off, fluffs his feathers, and keeps going. He may not move quite like other pigeons anymore, but he moves forward, and that’s what counts. His dark plumage gleams when the light hits it just right — a reminder that even after a hard fall, beauty finds its way back. Quico is living proof that resilience can come with a bit of wobble, that courage can have feathers, and that sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is just keep getting up again!
