Putty's Story
Putty is a 30 year-old female Congo African grey. She entered the Phoenix Landing adoption program in 2006. At the time, she was having constant seizures and was on a very high dose of phenobarbitol. We successfully weaned her off of that drug, provided her with an abundance of whole, healthy foods (veggies, grains, fruits, omega-3s, etc), gave her opportunities for sunshine /D3 so she could better absorb calcium, and provided lots of enrichment. Her seizures dramatically reduced and she has been doing really well for the last 20 years!

Putty is now looking for her next Phoenix Landing home. She has been to the veterinarian with good lab results, and very rarely has a seizure. She prefers to stay on the lower level of her cage probably because of falls in past years, but if it works for her and makes her feel safe, why not!?! She seems a bit wobbly upon occasion, but we have also seen her race across the floor to dive into a bucket of shreddable toys. We believe she needs lots of opportunities for exercise and out-of-cage time, a wide diversity of perch sizes and textures in her cage to keep her feet agile, and perhaps another bird in the household to peak her social and mental curiosity.

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption and education process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, but there are many other birds waiting for our help who are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots!

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/event?
