Peanut's Story

Meet Peanut

15 Years Old Scaly-Headed Parrot (Maximilian's Pionus)

Peanut's story is one of resilience, patience and second chances.
For many years, Peanut was deeply loved by her owner. Unfortunately, as her owner's health declined, Peanut experienced several years without the attention, enrichment and daily interaction every parrot deserves. Through no fault of her own, she spent much of that time simply existing instead of thriving.

When Peanut arrived at Critters Pet Shop & Rescue, she was understandably reserved and unsure of her surroundings. But every day, we're seeing little glimpses of the bird she's meant to be.

She's already beginning to perk up from the sights and sounds around her. Watching the other companion animals at Critters interact with visitors and find their forever homes seems to have awakened a spark in her. She's becoming more curious, more engaged and more interested in the world around her.

Like many Scaly-Headed Parrots, Peanut likes to take her time getting to know people. She isn't the type to immediately step into a new friendship. She watches, listens and decides for herself who she can trust. Once she feels comfortable, her friendly personality begins to shine through.

Peanut loves seeds, nuts, berries and fresh fruit. Vegetables, however, remain firmly on her "absolutely not" list.

Her future family should be prepared to continue the work of helping her rebuild her confidence and health. She'll need patience, understanding, proper nutrition and enrichment as she continues her comeback journey. We believe the best chapters of Peanut's life are still ahead of her.

Some animals arrive at rescue because they've been abandoned. Others arrive because life circumstances changed for the people who loved them. Peanut is one of those animals. She's looking for someone willing to see past where she's been and focus on where she's going.

If you have the patience to earn her trust and the heart to give a deserving bird a fresh start, Peanut may be waiting just for you.

Interested in meeting Peanut?
