Pat & Nema (married couple)'s Story

They met in foster care, two birds with a lot of recent history behind them, and fell in love. Nema was rescued after her leg became caught in a school bus, causing damage serious enough that one leg couldn’t be saved and the other required dedicated physical therapy to straighten and restore function. Nema is a gentle, quiet soul who knows what she likes: warm spots, soft surroundings, a calm environment, and time to rest. She has certainly earned the right to take her time!<br/>Pat arrived from a barn in rough shape — covered in wounds that were several days old by the time he was found, a badly broken leg, half his tail feathers gone, and thin in the way that means things had been hard for a while. His leg was set, bandaged, and healed. His feathers grew back. His wounds closed. What remained, once Pat had recovered, was his actual personality: feisty, playful, social, and possessed of a surprisingly mellow core underneath all the bravado. And then he met Nema! They balance each other in the way that good pairs often do — Pat’s energy and sociability, Nema’s stillness and warmth. She has a cozy spot; he has opinions about everything; together they have an arrangement that seems to suit them both completely. They found each other in the middle of recovering from things that could have gone much worse. They are ready, together, for a future that holds only love and security!
