Papaya may be small, but he has a very big personality.<br/>This handsome green cheek conure came to Rhode Island Parrot Rescue on 1/14/26 after his previous owners could no longer provide the care and socialization he needed. Since arriving, Papaya has been slowly learning that people are not always so scary.<br/><br/>Papaya can be fearful around new people and is not afraid to express his opinions when he feels unsure. He does not currently step up onto a hand, but he has already made wonderful progress during his time with us. He has learned to step onto a treat container and be transported over to the T-stand scale, where he willingly steps up to be weighed. For a nervous bird, those small moments of trust are huge milestones, and Papaya continues to show us that he is capable of growing with patience and understanding.<br/><br/>Outside of his cautious side, Papaya has many sweet qualities. He absolutely loves baths, enjoys singing occasionally, and is obsessed with bells and toys that make noise. His favorite treats are safflower seeds and almond slices, which are a great way to begin winning him over.<br/><br/>What Papaya truly needs is someone patient who understands that trust takes time. The most rewarding relationships are often built with the birds who need a little extra reassurance, and we believe Papaya has so much potential waiting to blossom in the right home.<br/><br/>Interested?
