Paco's Story

Paco is a 24 year old male blue and gold macaw. He will do his best to try and woo you. He is a bit of a casa nova and will take any opportunity to flirt and show off. He will blush at the sight of you and give a happy dance once he is comfortable with you but don’t let his demeanor fool you. Males can be especially unpredictable, so understanding body language and behavior a must! It's also not essential that we touch our birds. Check out Melanie's class about troubleshooting the step-up behavior (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mA1VAreUiyo).

Paco is is happiest listening to music and shredding toys and paper, just don’t allow him to try to build a nest. He tends to spend his time quietly playing or sun basking. Paco is very passive and sweet when he is away from his cage but his cage is his domain and he will be sure to let you know it. Having play areas, such as tree stands or things hanging from the ceiling, are especially helpful and safe for time out of the cage.

Paco loves to throw items because he finds it funny to watch you pick them up. Training and socializing away from his cage is highly recommended. He loves to play and is a quick learner. He loves fruit but will also eat vegetables as long as they are chopped up for him.

Unfortunately he has a habit of chewing on his wing feathers, a habit that may take time to diminish, but we're hopeful there are other activities that can replace that!

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, many other birds are waiting for our help and are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family too. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots.

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events

Thanks for helping parrots!
Phoenix Landing Foundation
www.phoenixlanding.org

Phoenix Landing Foundation's Adoption Policy
Understanding the attributes of various parrot species is important. It is also essential to make sure that the personal connection between each individual parrot and the adopting family is just right. We want our families and birds to succeed for many years. The first step is to send an application, begin talking with us, and attend our educational seminars. Our goal is to help each parrot find stability and the best possible place to call home. We want to set you and a bird up for success, this is why in most cases we prefer to do a home visit. This usually happens after you join us for a class, and before a bird is placed.
