Mygale's Story

“‘Makin’ my way downtown, walkin’ fast, faces pass…’ I was bobbing my head to that song when I suddenly realized my feets got entangled in some type of stringy thingy on the ground and I couldn’t get them unstuck!”
Meet Mygale, a remarkable pigeon whose story began at a bustling train stop in downtown Chicago, where fate brought him together with Volunteer Carol. She could tell immediately that this brave boy was asking for help, and thank goodness she was there to answer his call. Mygale had been suffering from a painful condition called stringfoot, where hair, string, or other debris wraps tightly around a bird’s toes and feet, cutting off circulation and causing severe damage over time. By the time Carol found him, this condition had already cost Mygale two toes on each foot. But don’t let that fool you into thinking he’s slowed down – this determined fellow has adapted beautifully and gets around with impressive confidence.
What strikes everyone who meets Mygale is his resilience. He’s learned that humans can be kind, that food comes regularly, and that safe, soft places to nap are his new favorite thing. Mygale is looking for a special family who will see past his missing toes to the incredible survivor underneath. He’s proven that nothing can keep a determined heart down, and he’s ready to share that unbreakable spirit with a loving forever home!
