Moon Pie's Story
Hello, my name is Moon Pie.
I am alive today by luck and resilience, but my beginning was not a kind one. I was part of something called a “wedding release,” where pigeons are set free at ceremonies as symbols of love, peace, or eternity. To the people watching, it might have looked beautiful—a flutter of white wings rising against the sky. But when the crowd went home, I was still out there, confused and alone. You see, pigeons like me are domesticated. We are not wild doves, though people often mistake us for them. We are gentle, tame, and bred to rely on human care. When we are released at weddings or funerals, we cannot find our way home. We don’t have survival skills. Most of us starve, fall prey to predators, or are injured within days. Many of my flock never made it. I was one of the lucky few. I remember the hunger in my belly and the way the world felt too sharp, too big, too cold. I remember searching for safety and finding none, until safety finally reached for me. I was no longer just a forgotten bird from someone’s special day—I was a survivor with a second chance. Now, I dream of something better. What I long for is a forever home where I will never again be treated as disposable. I want a family who will see me not as a symbol, but as myself: Moon Pie, a bird with a soft coo, a gentle spirit, and a heart that still hopes. By adopting me, you won’t just be saving one pigeon. You’ll also be saying no to an industry that treats lives like props. You’ll be choosing kindness, compassion, and truth. And in return, I will give you the gift of companionship, gratitude, and quiet joy. Please, let my story have a new chapter—one written in safety, warmth, and care. I am ready to come home.

With hope,
Moon Pie
