Meet Meep

Hi everyone! My name is Meep, and I am a stunning 7-year-old female Meyers Parrot. I am a young adult, so I have many years of love left to give! I am adjusting very well in my foster home, but I can't wait to find my forever home!

I am a very relaxed and chill bird. I'm not a very playful bird but I do enjoy destroying cardboard and balled-up paper sometimes. My foster mom keeps a tray on top of my cage with pellet bedding and buries sunflower seeds, peppers and peanuts around for me to forage. I really enjoy this because it's so fun! I love head scratches and having my pin feathers tended to. I also like light scratching of my beak to remove loose bits with your fingernail.

I am very used to an open cage, and I really don't like being closed up. So, it is important that my forever home give me lots of outside cage time. I know “come here” when my cage is open and will fly to you (if I want to, of course). I will stay on your shoulder happily during most household activities as long as you are upright. My other favorite human perch is the top of your knee. This is where I like to preen in the evenings while my foster mom is on her phone or reading.

I am terrified of house ladders or anything long and large including broom or mop handles. My foster mom makes sure that I am closed in my cage during use of any of these items in line of my sight, so I don't get injured while flying away. I even know the SOUND of a metal ladder! I also do not like air blowing directly on me and I don’t like to be cold. My favorite perch is my heated perch, and I will sit on that perch whenever I am in my cage.

I don’t like direct water sprayed on me, but I enjoy a good steam bath at the top of a shower. I am not an aggressive bird. Not over food or my cage or anything. I only get feisty when I feel threatened. I've only ever been this way toward strangers that move too quickly and too close. If I feel threatened, I will defend myself or fly away.

I really like routines and to be on a schedule. I sleep 12 hours at night, typically 8-8 depending on daylight savings. I have a particular call when I'm ready for bed. I am accustomed to my sleeping cage, covered, in a room to myself. I like to sleep on my rope perch all night. My foster mom makes sure she NEVER changes this sleeping routine or perch location. She takes me to it in the dark and I step right in.

I enjoy a close-neck cuddle in the morning and give happy clicks! I eat alone in the mornings usually and takes daily baths in freshwater but only when I am around men. I only use the water dish provided for baths. I eat again in the evenings and like to be with people for this meal. I want to eat simultaneously and will often eat right next to my foster family at the table with my food. I like stealing scrambled eggs, rice, and chicken! I especially like carbs and I’ll steal large pieces of bread, so my foster family have to watch me, to prevent my thieving ways.

I am on a pelleted diet of Zupreem along with fresh foods to supplement. I love to eat grapes, broccoli, sprouts of all kinds, sometimes a carrot, watermelon, dried peppers, and peanuts (I like to destroy the shell only). I am not a big fan of chop. Sunflower seeds in the shell are her number one favorite food. My foster family use it for training and to bribe me! I also like all the seed “treat sticks” made for birds. My foster mom clips these foods near my perch to snack on throughout the day.
