Marge's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
Hatch Date: Approximately January 2025

Marge is a very young DNA confirmed female Harlequin Macaw. She is a hybrid of a Green Wing Macaw mother and a Blue and Gold Macaw father.

Marge was hatched and raised in an enclosed aviary environment where she was not handled regularly as a young bird. Because of this, she is understandably shy and somewhat fearful of people, though she has already begun to show signs of warming up with gentle and consistent interaction.

She is not aggressive, but she is extremely timid and will require patience, time, and encouragement to build trust and confidence. Marge will do best with an experienced and dedicated adopter who understands macaw behavior and is committed to ongoing training and socialization. Due to her young age and long life expectancy, a younger adopter is strongly recommended.

Marge has shown some early favoritism toward males; however, this behavior cannot be considered permanent, as personality and preferences may change significantly once she reaches sexual maturity around four years of age.

Marge can be extremely loud at times, as is typical for macaws. Because of this, she will not be placed in an apartment, condo, duplex, or townhouse setting.

While she is not currently aggressive, it is important to understand that she has a very large beak and is capable of delivering a powerful bite. Proper handling, respect for boundaries, and ongoing training are essential.

She is currently maintained on a healthy diet consisting of pellets, nuts, and fresh foods, and has not been introduced to seed.

Marge has been disease tested and is negative for PBFD, chlamydia, and polyoma.

Marge is being fostered in Leonardo, New Jersey. She will require a minimum of three in person visits prior to adoption.

We do not ship our birds, and applicants must be within driving distance.

Only approved applicants can schedule visits.

For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. As our birds are housed in private homes, visits are scheduled only for approved applicants.

If you are interested in adopting Marge, please visit our website at ftlob.rescuegroups.org to review our adoption policies and fees, and to complete an adoption application.
