Lucida & Bodoni (married couple)'s Story
Lucida and Bodoni are Old German Owl Pigeons, a fancy breed with a history stretching back centuries in Europe. The name comes from their distinctive facial structure: a very short beak, a rounded, forward-facing head, and a profile that gives them an owlish, wide-eyed look that is — there’s no other word for it — extremely cute. They’re a smaller, more compact bird than your average pigeon, with the kind of feathering that looks deliberately styled. The rich chocolate-and-white patterning on these two is particularly striking, and those little head crests are doing a lot of work aesthetically!
As a fancy breed, Old German Owl Pigeons were never built for outdoor survival, which is why birds like Lucida and Bodoni end up needing rescue when they find themselves outside. Inside, though? They’re exactly where they belong. They’re comfortable with the sounds and rhythms of a household, and they’ve already demonstrated that they fit right in.
As a married couple they need to be adopted together, but honestly, getting both of them is the better end of the deal. ;-) They keep each other company, they photograph like a portrait sitting, and they will absolutely class up whatever room they’re in.
If you’ve been on the fence about adopting pigeons, Lucida and Bodoni are an extremely compelling argument for getting off the fence and getting ready to bring them home!
