Leo's Story

Meet Leo, our handsome senior Senegal who is ready to find his forever home!

Leo is at least 18 years old, although we suspect he may be closer to 30! His leg band says “96,” which could indicate he was hatched in 1996, but we can’t say for sure whether that’s his hatch year or simply an identification number. Either way, this gentleman has some life experience under his belt!

Now, if you know Senegals, you already know what we’re dealing with here. Leo is your typical Senegal: one minute he’s being the sweetest, most lovey little bird in the world, and the next minute he’s biting you completely out of nowhere. Senegal owners, you KNOW! They may be small, but they certainly make up for it in personality!

Leo does step up, talks up a storm, and ALWAYS has to get the last word in. He’s a goofy little guy who absolutely loves riding around on your shoulder and being part of whatever you’re doing.

Right now, Leo looks a little like a fluffy poof ball because he has plucked out his feathers and is currently covered in down feathers. I still think he’s quite the handsome gentleman! We’re continuing to work with him and provide the care he needs while he settles into this next chapter of his life.

Leo also came to us eating a junk-food diet, so we’ve been working on transitioning him over to a healthier diet of pellets and fresh chop. Like many birds, dietary changes take time, but we’re committed to helping him get on the right track!

If you’re looking for a smaller bird with a BIG personality, a goofy sense of humor, plenty of chatter, lots of love to give, and just the right amount of sass, Leo might be your guy!

Senior birds deserve wonderful homes, too. Leo has so much personality packed into that little body, and we’d love nothing more than to see him spend his golden years with someone who understands and appreciates everything that makes him uniquely Leo.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING LEO?

Location: Beech Creek, Pennsylvania

Adopters must be able to travel to our rescue. We do NOT ship birds. Every adoption requires an application and approval through our adoption process.

Apply here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeLsrp1MxZje3KVQSEbQDClBaRWIrIuM4FhXWi2_a8St9Gr7g/viewform?usp=dialog

Please remember that Senegal parrots can be sassy, independent, and unpredictable with their beaks. We’re looking for an adopter who understands parrot body language, respects his boundaries, and will love him for exactly who he is.

Soaring Spirits Sanctuary's Adoption Policy
Our adoption process is designed to prioritize the lifelong wellbeing, safety, and emotional needs of our parrots. Every bird has a different history, personality, level of socialization, medical needs, behavioral challenges, and ideal home environment. Because of this, we do not believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to adoption. When appropriate, we strongly prefer a foster-to-adopt arrangement. This gives the bird and potential adopter time to adjust to one another in a home environment and allows us to determine whether the placement is genuinely appropriate before finalizing the adoption. We do not place birds on hold and do not accept deposits to reserve a particular bird. We expect adopters to understand the long-term financial, emotional, medical, and lifestyle commitment involved in caring for a parrot. We want adopters to be prepared not only for the fun and rewarding parts of parrot ownership, but also for hormonal behavior, behavioral challenges, medical expenses, diets
