Kiwi's Story
Kiwi the quaker parrot was passed around through a few family members before being surrendered to the rescue to find his forever home. Unfortunately this story is common. Sometimes people want to rehome an animal to loved ones they trust rather than a stranger, but if the new owner doesnt really want the animal it just turns into another rehome shortly. Information gets lost down the line. Kiwis age is unknown but they do claim to know hes a boy. Despite the instability he is a pretty friendly bird! He will absolutely need time to settle into a new home before handling, but after a few of us spent 2 days earning his trust at the rescue a volunteer was able to hold him.

Hes a pretty happy guy. Loves coming out of his cage but he was a little hesitant to come off the top of the cage. He doesnt seem to recognize "step up" with a perch or using your arm. He has to warm up to a person and be offered their hand. He absolutely loved apple slices! but didnt recognize other produce as food. Hes currently eating a seed blend and a proper pellet diet mixed together. Kiwi does pretty well sleeping thru the night and even keeping quiet for a good chunk of the day when hes kept in a room to sleep. He squaks when overly excited or confused (people approaching or people just left) and mostly talks nicely during interactions. Of course bird behavior cannot be guaranteed and may always change depending on the home environment, family members, other pets, etc. An experienced bird owner will be required.

Kiwi was surrendered in the small cage that you see in the pictures. The family member who dropped him off said that he was previously living in a bigger cage but we are unsure if that was a year ago when his last home switch occurred. Hes got a larger cage in his foster home but permanent housing will be the responsibility of the adopter to provide. He will come with this small cage upon adoption, as a transport cage only. Your setuo must be approved prior to adoption. Adoption fee is $250
