Kingsley's Story
Kingsley was never supposed to grow up.

She's a king pigeon, a breed developed for squab, the restaurant name for young pigeon meat. On a squab farm, adult birds are kept to breed, and their babies are taken for slaughter before they ever leave the nest. Somehow, Kingsley got out. Nobody opened a door for her. She rescued herself.

And look what she grew into! Picture a cumulus cloud that learned to walk: a great snowy dome of a bird with a pale pink beak, dark eyes ringed in coral, and feet so red they look freshly painted. Set her on a rock, and the rock becomes a throne.

Her name comes from Old English for "the king's clearing." Kingsley found hers. Now she's deciding whether it's really safe to stand in it. She's shy and gentle, and her foster has watched her slowly work out that she's safe here, and that people might be worth trusting again. She won't throw herself into your arms on day one. When her trust does come, you'll know you earned it.

Kingsley needs a calm, patient indoor home with people content to sit quietly and let her come to them. Like all domestic pigeons, she can't survive outdoors. She already did the hardest part herself by getting out. All she needs now is someone to bring her home.
