Jaco's Story
Jaco is a 20 year old male Eclectus. Like many of his species, feather damage is common. Diet is a major factor since the Eclectus have a very unique digestive system. You can learn more about this from one of our recent events with Dr. Rob Marshall from Australia. He specifically addresses the needs of Eclectus parrots (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrnPBRrgm-0). If you are interested in Jaco, or just want to learn more about the unique Eclectus parrot, please listen to this video!

One of the things we learned from Dr. Marshall is that males often have very overgrown beaks due to vitamin A deficiencies. He recommends a very vitamin A-oriented diet, sometimes accompanied by a vitamin A injection to help get things back on track. Jaco is an example of why this was great advice!

Jaco is quite charming as an individual. He wants to be part of the action all the time! He is a great eater (of the foods he most needs) and bathes daily to the sound of the vacuum. These have all been major improvements to his quality-of-life. We want him only moving forward with only good care with an educated family.

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, many other birds are waiting for our help and are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family too. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots.

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events

Thanks for helping parrots!
Phoenix Landing Foundation
www.phoenixlanding.org
