Honey's Story
Honey is a 30 year old male yellow-naped Amazon. He is looking for his next Phoenix Landing home, and since he is young by Amazon standards, it probably won't be his last. But we want to make sure he goes from a good place to a good place!

Being a male, he has clear opinions about who he choses to build a relationship with, and that is usually only one person or other bird. So if it's a home with more than one person, this often means some need to be ok with giving distance and personal space for their safety and respect for Pancho's natural preferences.

And if he chooses you - you can count on fierce loyalty and affection. He is friendly with other birds until food or attention are up for grabs, then best to be in his own area. Amazons are very food motivated, generally. He loves attention, being talked or read to, sharing music, or just generally the center of activity. Honey makes lovely whistles, and chatters most of the day, especially when company is over. What a show off :-) He will step onto a rope perch for transport, a great skill for all birds to have!

He enjoys wood, birdie bagels, and natural shreddables for enrichment. He eats Lafeber pellets, some fresh foods, birdie bread, and Omega 3 is important is important for all birds. He says things like "whoa", "what?", "I don't know", and "cracker."

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption and education process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, but there are many other birds waiting for our help who are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots!

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events
