Cosmo

Cosmo is a stunning 14-year-old Sun Conure (presumed to be male) who is looking for a loving, understanding, forever home.

While he used to be quite the social butterfly, Cosmo has gotten a bit shy around strangers. He just now needs a little extra time and patience to warm up to new people. Once he builds trust with you, his sweet, bright personality comes right through.

Cosmos's ideal home would be a home without cats or dogs so he can feel completely safe and confident in his surrounldings. His previous owner loved him dearly but could no longer give him the daily attention he thrives on. He is ready for a home where he can be part of the daily routine again.. If you have a spot in your heart for a loyal feathered friend, Cosmo could be your perfect match!

If interested in adopting Cosmo, please visit www.pearlparrot.com to submit an adoption application. PEARL Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit is located in Pittsburgh, PA and adopts within 100 miles of Pittsburgh.

Sun Conures are small-to-medium birds best known for their vivid plumnage and big personalites. Average life span ranges from 20-30 years.

About the species: Sun Conures (Aratinga solstitialis), also known as Sun Parakeets, are small parrots native to northeastern South America, primarily found in Guyana and northern Brazil. Adult Sun Conures are known for their brilliant yellow and orange coloring, with green and blue feathers on the wings and a long, tapered tail. At approximately 12 inches in length and 4.2–4.5 ounces in weight, they are relatively small parrots but have the intelligence, energy, strong personality, and considerable vocal abilities associated with conures.

Sun Conures are highly social, active, and intelligent parrots that benefit from substantial daily interaction with their caregivers, mental stimulation, and opportunities to climb, explore, chew, forage, and play. They can also be extremely loud, with powerful, penetrating calls that should be carefully considered by prospective adopters, particularly those living in apartments or other environments where noise may be a concern.

In the wild, Sun Conures feed on a variety of fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, flowers, buds, and other plant material. They are social birds and may gather in groups, particularly around abundant food sources. Although Sun Conures are familiar as companion parrots, they are endangered in the wild, with populations having declined dramatically due largely to trapping for the bird trade.

Sun Conures can live for several decades with appropriate care and should be considered a long-term commitment. They need a nutritious and varied diet, regular veterinary care from an avian veterinarian, daily opportunities for exercise and enrichment, appropriate outlets for chewing and foraging, and consistent social interaction with their caregivers.

PEARL requires an appropriately sized cage that provides sufficient room for movement, climbing, toys, perches, and enrichment.

Interested in Adopting?

Visit www.pearlparrots.com to learn more about our adoption process and complete an adoption application. All prospective adopters are required to complete PEARL's Standards of Care class as part of the adoption process. Once your application is received, one of our Adoption Counselors will work with you throughout the process to help determine whether may be a good fit for your home.

NOTE: Please do not purchase a cage or other major supplies before working with your PEARL Adoption Counselor. We will help you determine an appropriate cage and setup based on PEARL's standards and the parrot's individual needs.

Adoption Fee: $200
