Casper's Story

Casper is a 23 year old DNA confirmed male Congo African grey who is fully feathered, flighted, and in good health. Initially he is very protective of his cage and will bite if given the chance but he does eventually warm up - but it takes a long time. You know what that means, right? Don't try to touch a bird until they invite you, otherwise, YOU are responsible for any bites and you don't want to start an unnecessary pattern.

Even from his cage, Casper provides loads of entertainment - he waves, says hello, oooh, Casper, hey, dances to music, cheers for touchdowns, and says something like rah rah rah when you are trying to have a conversation instead of paying attention to him - it’s hilarious.

Casper is eating Harrison’s now and loves nuts, Lafeber Nutriberries, fresh fruits and vegetables. He’s not picky. Casper keeps himself busy ripping up seaweed mats and cardboard toys. Although he sometimes enjoys the company of other birds, he sometimes objects if they are on top of his cage. He is very intelligent and definitely has the potential to enjoy training, in fact he deserves that kind of enrichment.

Casper and Jenna came to us together. While not bonded, having a friend of the same species is always nice for parrots.

Their current adopter must relinquish them for respiratory reasons. Having a good Hepa filter is always recommended when living with a grey, cockatoo or cockatiels especially.

The best way to learn more about our birds is to complete our parrot match application, found under the "Adoption" tab on our website, www.phoenixlanding.org. The folks who help answer PetFinders inquiries cannot tell you about specific individuals.

After you complete our online core class (recommended for anyone!) you will be connected with the adoption coordinator for your area. Attending one of our core parrot care classes is also required in order to adopt a parrot. A list of them may be found at https://www.phoenixlanding.org/events.html. Those classes that count as part of the adoption process are noted with an icon beside their title.

Phoenix Landing offers educational classes and facilitates parrot adoptions in Maryland, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northern Florida. Phoenix Landing does not ship birds.
