Buddha's Story

Buddha is a wild-caught male African grey, we estimate he is probably about 40 years old. But that doesn't mean he's old, we are expecting him to have many years ahead!

Since being in the adoption center, he has become progressively more active, moving around his cage with lots perches and "stations" where he has a foraging or toy activity. One of his favorite spots is a bowl filled with little wooden spoons, spools, and blocks. He picks and plays with these for a long time.

He's also been very dedicated to eating a wide variety of veggies, fruit, and mash offerings. His favorites are pomegrante seeds, raspberries, kamut grains, pumpkin bread, and Nutri-berries. He came to us on an all-seed diet, but we discontinued that from the start, as we do with birds in the adoption centers. Most really appreciate having healthier foods with different textures and tastes, and transition quickly.

Reportedly Buddha has had feather destructive behavior for many years. When he came to us, he had no tail; now he's got a full, beautiful array of red tail feathers. He does grow some of his chest feathers back on a regular basis, and then often loses them again. We hope his enhanced food and enrichment options will help them stay someday. But if not, he's adorable anyway!

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, many other birds are waiting for our help and are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family too. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots.

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events

Thanks for helping parrots!
Phoenix Landing Foundation
www.phoenixlanding.org

Phoenix Landing Foundation's Adoption Policy
Understanding the attributes of various parrot species is important. It is also essential to make sure that the personal connection between each individual parrot and the adopting family is just right. We want our families and birds to succeed for many years. The first step is to send an application, begin talking with us, and attend our educational seminars. Our goal is to help each parrot find stability and the best possible place to call home. We want to set you and a bird up for success, this is why in most cases we prefer to do a home visit. This usually happens after you join us for a class, and before a bird is placed.
