She survived emaciation and a hard stretch before rescue, and came out of it with the bearing of someone who has been through things and would prefer not to repeat them. She’s composed. Discerning. She has opinions about Bobalki’s behavior and she makes them known through sustained eye contact.<br/>Bobalki is pure white, soft, named after a Slovak Christmas bread, and is essentially a loaf with wings and feelings. He brings Bernadette nesting materials as gifts. He coos at her with an intensity that suggests he considers himself very persuasive. He stands slightly too close.
