Caramel's Story

She has been adopted!

"Caramel" the miniature goat is extremely friendly, enjoys being with people and walks well on leash. She appears to be a Nigerian Dwarf which is a miniature dairy goat (not a Pygmy). Approx. 55 lbs. and knee high (on a person) at her withers. Dewormed, had her hooves trimmed, and had been disbudded (no horns). Has wattles (fleshy flaps on her neck like large skin tags which serve no purpose): see photo. Our guess is she is five or so years old (has all of her permanent teeth, but they are not worn down).

Caramel was a stray so has an unknown history. For the past four weeks she has been isolated from other goats on her foster's farm, but she really wants to be with them.

Caramel should go to a home with at least one other goat. Doesn't appear to like dogs and charges the fence at them. We don't know how she is with horses, cows, sheep or other livestock. LOVES to spend time with people!

MUST have safe, secure fencing (no barbed wire) including good gates as she will try to escape. She is a bit hard on fences, despite her size! Needs a barn or sheltered area to be out of the rain and to lie down to chew her cud.

She is not for meat. We don't know if she's kidded/freshened in the past. She appeared to be in heat when she first arrived. Her modest adoption fee is to cover her lab test for Johnes (a faecal test), and we recommend all new goats also be tested for CAE and CL (and whatever else your vet recommends).

You must come to Duncan, Vancouver Island to meet Caramel. A home visit may be required.

Please tell us a bit about yourself/your property/where she will be living, your experience with goats, and why you are interested in adopting Caramel. She's a GREAT little goat and deserves a great home.
