Umami's Story

Standard grey female chinchilla -- "Umami"
Born 8/2023 -- 2 years old

Surrendered -- 2/12/2025

This youngish rescue chinchilla is named Umami. She came to us back in February. She's a whopping 2 years young! We were told that she seems more comfortable in her cage and she shakes when she's being held. We've spent time working with her, trying to get her to come around... we've decided... They're... not wrong.

Umami is definitely protective of her cage. Read -- if you don't snatch her out of her cage REALLY-QUICKLY, she will stand up and spray you (heck, just opening her cage and getting close, you get a barrage of barking). Even if you do get her out, she's just not thrilled about being in your arms. If you leave her in her cage? She's fun to watch, she's a good chin... enjoys chewing on things, hopping around and looking cute... she just prefers more of a hands-off lifestyle.

Our farmhand's notes on her read -- "she is not a fan of people. She's super bouncy and energetic as well. Bound for the floor in 0.2 seconds!"

We wouldn't suggest playtime... as you'll *never* catch her. A good size cage with lots of enrichment, maybe even a wheel, could be a lot of fun for her. She's just not likely ever going to be cuddly. But she deserves a home too! Is it you?

Adoption fee -- $75 cash or zelle / $83 card or other electronic payment

Interested in adopting?
