Ralphie's Story

Ralphie is a very sweet little guy but was constantly overlooked in our local PetSmart store because of the color of his eyes. We have noticed this in the rescue as well, ruby or claret-colored eyed hamsters take longer to get adopted. Ralphie loves to burrow and run on his wheel. He also enjoys rolling in his sand bath. At first, he seemed a little timid when we went to pick him up, but he soon got better at being handled. Ralphie is a Campbell's dwarf hamster and is probably around 8 months old.

Ralphie is being fostered in Macungie, PA, the adoption fee for Ralphie is $15.

All hamsters are solitary animals and should be housed by themselves. They are also crepuscular meaning they prefer to come out during dusk and dawn as well as overnight. For this reason, they do not always make the best pets for children under the age of ten. Hamsters can make cute and fun little pets, but as any pets do, they require some special care.

We recommend all our hamsters regardless of if they are Syrian or dwarf move into a cage that is at least 600 sq inches of continuous floor space. Many cages sold in pet store do not meet this requirement. Below are some of the cages we recommend -
-Prevue Pet Products 528 Universal Small Animal Home
-Bucastate Hamster Cage 2.0 or 3.0 (39.3x19.7x20.6 or the larger version)
-GDLF Hamster Cage with Storage Cabinet (39.5x19.7x43.7)
-Niteangel Bigger World (39.4x19.7 or the larger version)
-Also check out Erins Animals (SomethingAnimal) Hamster Bin Cages 101 and how to make a bin cage on YouTube.

For information on hamster care especially if you are new to owning a hamster, please check out -
-Victoria Raechel Basic Hamster Care series on YouTube

If you are interested in providing Ralphie with a loving forever home AS A PET ONLY, please fill out our online adoption application here - https://form.jotform.com/200364365822048

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and we'd be happy to help you!
