Mobius Gerbil Gerbil Boyertown, PA

Mobius was turned into ACCT in Philly because the gerbil he had lived with in the past had passed away and the owners did not want to get him another friend. Mobius is a young gerbil, his previous owners had only had him 2 months. It's possible he was bought as a friend for an older gerbil. Thankfully ACCT contacted Northeast Animal Rescue because they do not have the space for small animals and then we were asked if we had room to take him in. Mobius was very easy to take photos of and is an easy little guy to handle. Most gerbils are pretty quick which can make them tricky to handle but Mobius is fairly chill. He has been very active in his cage though, rearranging everything. Since Mobius is living on his own and gerbils are very social it would be great if he could have another friend especially since he is still young. However, it would have more chance of working out if the other male gerbil is young also. Introductions should be done in a neutral space. Some people use the split cage technique but if you do that you need to have a large cage otherwise the gerbils can get frustrated. We have had success switching the gerbil from one cage to the other, so they get used to the smell of the other gerbil. There is no guarantee putting two gerbils together will be successful and if fighting occurs, they will need to be separated quickly. While gerbils can live in bin style cages 100qrt or larger, we generally prefer 40-gallon aquariums or larger, they are harder to chew. Mobius loves his sand bath, Niteangel wheel and deep bedding. He also has a lot of different cardboard items in his cage which he enjoys chewing.
