Mateo and Rio's Story
Hi, our names are Mateo and Rio! Here is what would work best for us in our new home:
-Personality: Shy, alert, active
-Can live with kids: Kids can be in our home, however my primary caregiver needs to be an adult and handling with adult supervision until they are better socialized.
-Experienced Chinchilla home: Not required, but preferred. Research prior to adoption on care is required.
-Lifespan: 10+ years
-Can live with other Chinchillas: Yes, Rio and Mateo are a bonded pair and they will be required to go home together. They may do well with another male chinchilla but a very slow and supervised introduction will be required to ensure safety.
-Bite History: None, but has been known to test nibble.
-Additional information: Mateo and his best friend Rio are ready for a loving and responsible forever home. They would LOVE to go home with someone who has prior chinchilla experience and is ready to commit to giving them a lifelong home. they will need a nice roomy, well ventilated cage with multiple levels that can be kept cool and dry, and has the right kind of flooring to prevent foot injuries. The cage he is currently housed in is a great example of an appropriate enclosure. Their diet should consist of high quality pellet food and unlimited grass hay (Timothy/orchard/oat, alfalfa is NOT a grass hay) daily. They will also need dust baths 1-2 times weekly.
