Maia's Story

Maia is a spirited 2.5 y/o Abyssinian guinea pig with a permanent head tilt that only adds to her charm. While her condition doesn't slow her down, it does mean she needs a little extra care. Which is why she's part of our Lifelong Sanctuary Program alongside her sister, Lila.

The girls came to us in September 2024 after being surrendered together. Earlier this year, they nearly found their forever home with an experienced adopter. But during their foster-to-adopt trial, they had a health scare and both needed X-rays and bloodwork, and while Lila's results came back clear, Maia required several weeks of strong antibiotics. Though we covered their vet bills, but the time commitment and medication schedule ultimately proved too much for the potential adopter.

Thankfully, Maia and Lila soon landed with a wonderful family who had fostered and adopted from us before. They've committed to giving these sisters the care they need, keeping up with weekly weigh-ins and sending us frequent updates to let us know the girls are thriving.

Maia and Lila are only available for adoption to homes experienced with caring for special needs guinea pigs or those willing to learn.
