Mae's Story

Mae is what's known as a "lethal white" guinea pig. She was born with a number of congenital conditions due to her genetics. She was accepted into Penny & Wild's sanctuary program along with her mother, Daisy, after their previous owner could no longer afford their medical care. Sadly, Daisy passed away in June 2025, but her memory lives on through the love and care Mae continues to receive.

Mae was born completely blind and deaf, with a condition called microphthalmia (underdeveloped eyes) for which she gets daily eye drops, and she's missing a large portion of her lower jaw. When she first came to us her upper incisors were sticking out of her mouth like tusks and she could barely eat. Her teeth were extracted to improve her quality of life.

Despite her challenges, Mae is sweet, resilient, and full of life. She lives with one of our dedicated sanctuary fosters. Thanks to them, Mae will be loved and safe for the rest of her life.
