Their owner had been on our non-emergency wait-list since August. Unable to rehome them independently and moved into non-pet friendly housing. They were able to conceal them for a while, but the landlord found out and served them a 3 day notice to " fix it or quit ". The notice was provided to us as well.

The owner tried. They're a single mom and honestly, we understand when you have to choose between pets or your children having a roof over their head. Where we live housing is very expensive, and pet friendly rentals are not common or accessible.

Now, that being said this duo also provides us with an educational moment. It's very important that Chinchilla owners be confident in their handling. Accidents can still happen, of course, but they're reduced by securely and properly handling pets. In all the commotion of gathering the animals to bring down to the rescue, the owner lost control of one. The animal was loose and lost in the home for awhile and appears to have busted her lip on the way down.

With chinchillas we have to be especially cautious about their teeth. Malo is often talked about in its genetic form, but misalignment of their teeth can happen from trauma as well. This misalignment can be detrimental to their overall dental health, so we're going to have to monitor her closely for any misbehaving incisors but they looked okay. The swelling will go down on her lips and the cut will heal. It was an accident.

Always handle your pets with CONFIDENCE. When in doubt - Securely grip the base of the tail, and move them into the carrier or hold them close to your body. Support the rest of their body with your free hand.

Upon intake we also noticed both girls seem to have trimmed tails, or have chewed their tail fur down. We'll see if it changes during their maternity holds. They were fed a quality pellet, hay, and seemed to be cared for very well otherwise.

To adopt, you must apply with Cali_FID Rescue. Go to www.califidparrotandexotic.com and fill out the adoption application.

These animals live in FOSTER HOMES. The rescue group does not have a facility for visitors.

If you have any additional questions about Cali_FID’s Chinchillas please contact the rescue group.

Thank you for choosing adoption!
