Meet Hot Sauce

Our adoption process can be found on our website here:
https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/process

Estimated birth date: 12/1/20

Personality: Chatty, Curious, Friendly toward humans, Hesitant, Inquisitive, Nervous, Fairly shy, he doesn't always run away but is not a fan of being petted just yet. We're working on it!

Favorite treats: Alfalfa-based pellets, pea flakes, and most of any other treats.

Current Diet: Current Diet: Oxbow Essentials Adult Guinea Pig Food, Fruit, Veggies, Leafy Greens, Western Timothy Hay, Tiny Friends Farm Gerty Guinea Pig Scrummies ( We are trying to transition out of the Tiny Tails food)

Favorite toys and activities: Hot Sauce loves a good long nap in a massive pile of hay. He loves to dig in to a fresh hay refill in his enclosure. He likes treat dispensing toys, and chewing on softer items such as cardboard or paper.

Potty trained: Not really, but he and his bondmate tend to do most of their business near their hay boxes/areas.

This animal’s daily routine: The typical routine is pellets right away in the morning, then attention, free-roam time and veggies in the evening.

BFF (Does this animal have or need a friend of the same species in their home?): Hot Sauce and Guacamole are a bonded pair and must be adopted together.

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: He has been exposed to a dog and cat, and did not seem overly anxious or fearful.

Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? Yes, in small doses, he doesn't seem to mind them, but is fairly shy to most people.

Health concerns: Hot Sauce is blind in his left eye, and does have some spots on his right eye. As a result, he can sometimes be easily startled, or not see things coming. He navigates his enclosure easily, even when the arrangement is changed. He isn't limited very much by his reduced vision and has incredible hearing. He is the first one to start wheeking when you're prepping veggies!

Behavioral concerns: None

Other Notes: Hot Sauce is timid with his reduced vision, and can be startled really easily by unexpected touch. I have been working with him on ways to interact without scaring the little guy. He does best if you make a little noise with your hands, such as rubbing two fingers together, and approaching from the right side if possible. Like most piggies he isn't a fan of being picked up, but he has spent some time snuggling with me once he's been scooped up. Earning his trust and affection is a gradual journey but he is such a bright and lovely guinea pig that he is absolutely worth it.

Hot Sauce & Guacamole came to MNPPR when their previous owner was no longer able to provide attention.
