Gopher and Max's Story

Meet Gopher & Max! Gopher is a sweet, gentle boy who loves lap time and politely taking treats from your hand. Rescued from the grounds of an apartment complex, this handsome little survivor has a unique agouti coat that inspired his name. Max is full of charm and personality! He came to the rescue by way of the LA shelter and has made great strides since being with his wonderful foster family! Max is a Ridgeback guinea pig and has an adorable white “mohawk” just behind his ears. Max is as cute as he is spirited. As of February 2026 Max is approximately six months old and Gopher is close to two years old. Together, Gopher and Max make the perfect pair — a wonderful mix of sweet and spunky! Southern California Guinea Pig Rescue's Adoption Policy

Adopters must fill out an application (available online) and submit a photo or receipt of their cage so we can verify our minimum space requirements are met. After approval, arrangements are made for the adopter to meet the guinea pigs with an experienced volunteer to facilitate the introductions and answer any questions. If trying to pair a single guinea pig with a current pig, the application process is the same but the meeting process is a bit lengthier. The adopter can meet with several single guinea pigs to see which one may be a harmonious match. Initial introductions can last a couple hours and the adopter will go home and reintroduce the guinea pigs and monitor for signs of aggression. If the bond fails, the adopter must separate the guinea pigs and we will make arrangements to take the guinea pig back. Then we repeat until we find a good match.
