Flower (in foster)'s Story

Medical update! We have learned that Flower is vision impaired and can only see shadows.

Meet Flower, – The Queen of Snacks, Ruler of the Cabbage!

Our charmingly not-so-eye-venturous guinea pig! While she may be sight-challenged, she's got a heart as big as her appetite and enough personality to light up the darkest corners of her cozy habitat!

Despite her lack of vision, Flower's navigation skills are second to none! She confidently zips around her enclosure like a tiny furry rocket, relying on her keen sense of smell and supersonic whiskers.

Now, her vet has recommended that her housing stay the same, which means no sudden moves or elaborate renovations. After all, why fix what isn’t broken? Flower loves her digs—it's like her very own luxury suite, with the perfect blend of cozy hideouts and gourmet dining options (she’s particularly fond of her leafy greens).

While she may have a cute, squeaky personality, Flower is all about that "me, myself, and I" lifestyle. Other guinea pigs? Not on her watch. She believes in solo snacking and thinks food is too sacred to be split—after all, someone might steal her favorite carrot, and we can't have that! Flower would much prefer to have a home where the snacks are all hers, and hers alone.

Flower is in foster currently with a young child and a large, curious but gentle dog, and is doing very well! Flower is actually quite curious about the dog herself, so we think Flower could be placed in a home with a calm, respectful, no-prey-drive dog.

Flower is living proof that you don’t need to see to shine. She’s redefining what it means to be “visually challenged” with humor, charm, and a sprinkle of hay confetti! ???

We're really hoping to find Flower a loving home that is committed to daily play/snuggle time, Monitoring of her vision issues, daily cleaning, and proper nutrition and veterinary care.

Flower's approximate date of birth is Nov 2023.

The adoption fee is $25 + tax.

Please apply today! https://www.newwestcity.ca/database/files/library/NWAS_Small_Animal_Adoption_Application_2020.pdfMe

New Westminster Animal Shelter's Adoption Policy
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN AN ANIMAL, please submit an application form. This is the FIRST step in the adoption process. Please do NOT email us just to express interest. https://www.newwestcity.ca/services/animal-services/animal-shelter Our animals have unique personalities and needs. Our goal is to find the most suitable home for them and the most suitable pet for you. We make every effort to place animals in “forever” homes so they don’t find themselves back in a shelter. They’ve already lost their home once, and we don’t want them to go through that again. All applications are reviewed by two shelter staff members. We also conduct a phone interview, at which time we will address any questions or concerns you may have. Typically, we are able to inform applicants within 72 hours. If your application has been approved, we will then schedule a time for you to come pick up your new family member!
