Dan, Banshee & Darko's Story

Fostered in Albany, NY.

**Dan (male) is neutered, Banshee & Darko (females) are not spayed**

All Seniors

UPDATE 2/24/26:

Dan has been through a lot of changes in his life. He came into foster with a cagemate, and was introduced to another companion, but then both of the cagemates ended up passing away. Recently, he was introduced to two lady friends, Banshee and Darko, and the three of them have become a little mischief of seniors.

Dan is a very laid back rat. He’s extremely easy to handle and melts when he gets face rubs. He’s content sitting on a lap and will even eat a treat while laying on his back if he feels comfortable enough. When he finds scattered food around the cage, he gets excited and popcorns to his hide to stash it. During free roam, he tends to find a hide and rest there after a while. Sometimes it takes a few seconds for Dan to decide if he wants to take food from a hand, but when he does (and he always will), he tends to snatch it, so it’s best to give him a piece large enough to make sure fingers are out of the way.

Banshee is full of energy. She climbs all over the cage and is inseparable with her sister, Darko. She enjoys exploring during free roam and is a very good jumper. Initially, she was unsure about being picked up, but her social personality quickly comes out when she gets used to her new environment. She’s always at the front of the cage, ready to greet you and is easy to handle, but she prefers to be active compared to staying in one place. Banshee is an avid hoarder, given half a chance.

Darko takes a little more time to get comfortable in new environments, but she is by no means shy, just a little less outgoing than Banshee. Although she isn’t a huge fan of being held in a hand for too long, she has no issues doing her own thing and walking all over you when she feels secure in her surroundings. Like Banshee, she is very food motivated and follows a food lure, so I could see both of them doing well with trick training. Everyone knows how to “give paw.” Between the two girls, Darko in particular has bonded well with Dan, often using him as a giant pillow.
