Meet Cafe!<br/><br/>Cafe is an approximately 1-year-old American Smooth guinea pig with handsome brown and tan coloring and an adorable racing stripe that makes him stand out from the crowd. This sweet little guy is curious, gentle, and always happy to investigate what's happening around him, especially if fresh veggies are involved! Whether he's exploring his enclosure, relaxing in a cozy hideout, or greeting you with excited wheeks at mealtime, Cafe is sure to bring smiles to his future family!<br/><br/>Guinea pigs have a vegan diet that consists primarily of unlimited high-quality Timothy hay, supplemented with 1/8 cup of hay-based guinea pig pellets each day. They also need about 1 cup of fresh vegetables daily, including favorites like romaine, green and red leaf lettuce, escarole, parsley, dill, and bell peppers. Because guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C, they require a consistent source through their diet or supplements to stay healthy.<br/><br/>Cafe is currently housed on his own and has been doing well independently. While guinea pigs are generally social animals, each one has their own personality. Cafe could do well as a solo pet in a home where he receives plenty of daily interaction and enrichment, or he may be a candidate for a carefully managed introduction to another compatible guinea pig if his future family is interested. Any introductions should be done slowly and thoughtfully to help ensure a successful match.<br/><br/>Cafe will need a solid-bottom enclosure with at least 7.5 square feet of living space (approximately 2 ft. × 4 ft.), along with fresh food and water, cozy hideouts, toys, and enrichment to keep him happy and active.<br/><br/>Our shelter is open Tuesday–Saturday from 12–4 (closed Mondays; adoption and surrender appointments only on Sundays).
