Blaine's Story

Blaine was a transfer from a large Chicago Shelter and it has taken him a while to get healthy enough for adoption! He had a skin infection when he arrived and also has chronic dental disease. The infection is all gone but he will likely always have problems with his teeth. Because his teeth grow crooked, he requires a dental trim by the vet 2-3 times a year. He also doesn't eat as much hay as a normal chinchilla so he needs special attention to his diet to make sure he doesn't eat too many cookies and get too chunky, all he wants to eat is pellets and cookies. It is important to not give a dental chinchilla too many soft foods as they are more prone to GI stasis due to the lack of hay. It is still important to offer him hay.<br/> Blaine makes up for his high-maintenance nature by how friendly and sweet he is. Many chinchillas don't love to be touched but Blaine will happily get scritches and pets. He does not like to be picked up, though!https://www.lostwoodsas.com/adoption-application

Lost Woods Animal Sanctuary's Adoption Policy
Adopters first fill out an application on our website, which asks about the adopter's household, how they plan on housing their new pet and what they plan on feeding. Because exotics have very species-specific housing and dietary needs, we have a director reach out to each adopter to discuss proper housing, diet and husbandry, as well as lifespan and handling. Adopters can choose to schedule a meet-and-greet with the animal or adopt without a meet. We need to receive a picture of the enclosure when it is ready, and when the enclosure and the adopter are ready, we schedule the adoption. Our adoption fees are set to be comparable to the animal's price at a pet store. Adopters sign a contract certifying that if they can no longer care for the animal, they must return them to Lost Woods. When adopting bonded pairs/groups, each bondmate is half fee. Fees: Rabbit, chinchilla, or tortoise $100 Bearded dragon or degu $50 Guinea pig $40 pair $30 single Leopard gecko $30 Rat, hamster, or gerbil $20 Mouse $15
