Mayfly's Story
Intake date: 8/18/24
Status: Available

Mayfly is an adult female leopard gecko who was originally part of a mass hoarding case in Georgia. Mayfly was in decent shape when surrendered and has been doing great for us. She is a chunky, friendly leo who has a good appetite. Her adoption fee is $50.

Mayfly was part of a study to test a new way to diagnose cryptosporidium, a parasite that can affect reptiles. Her cryptosporidium test had a faint positive, so we sent out PCR testing to the University of Florida and Research Associates Laboratory multiple times. Mayfly's PCR tests were always negative. Another local institution who has used these new tests notes that the "faint positive" often correlates with other types of parasites, not cryptosporidium. Mayfly has been treated for pinworms and has no symptoms of cryptosporidium. We believe she is NEGATIVE for cryptosporidium based on the gold standard PCR diagnostics, but we want to be completely transparent. We have kept Mayfly for a whole year just to monitor her and want her to have the opportunity to be adopted to a good home!

This gecko will require a minimum 36" x 18" x 12" enclosure.

Visit our care guide here: https://bewildnc.org/leopard-gecko

PLEASE READ!
If you are interested in adopting this animal, you need to fill out an application at https://bewildnc.org/apply/.
