Kurma's Story
"Kurma" is now a happy and healthy African Sulcata Spurred Tortoise. These critters are multi-generational pets that need a loving home with a family who can fulfill their 100 year plus lifetime needs. He was dumped originally in a rural farm area of Virginia when he was just a baby. He only weighed 200 grams when he was discovered in a box with three other tortoise species.

Fortunately, the farmers knew who to call. The Bunny Hutch Donor Boutique and CLIMATES-Rescue www.TheBunnyHutch.org went out and picked him and the other species of tortoises up immediately.

He has been in foster care for over a year to get him off to a great start. Recently, he was transferred to the West Coast to make his adoption and care easier for any family. His main diet is Orchard Grass or Timothy Hay with additional vegetables and supplements to ensure a healthy and long life.

He currently weighs 15 pounds, but he will grow to over 100 pounds!

Tortoises are best as solo. Sulcatas get BIG! and may bully other tortoises. But he has been exposed to other critters such as dogs, cats, and other pets.

He is microchipped just in case. Adult Sulcatas have been know to dig out of yards. Daily fence perimeter checks must be completed to ensure he does not escape.

As pets Sulcatas require a securely fenced in yard with a heated night house for safety and access to a heated soak/pond. These elements MUST be in place before he can be transferred. We will require a home inspection. But we can provide diet selection logs, fact and care instructional sheets, and Veterinary recommendations as an annual examnis required. He can be transferred to states neighboring Nevada, but an additional donation to cover transport may be required.

*We normally do not adopt out tortoises to private homes due to their 100 year lifespan. But we have a surplus of Sulcatas in foster care.

*Looking to adopt any species?! Petfinder can help you find any critter.
