SOOT's Story

SOOT will be coming to the Chesterfield PetSmart store on Saturday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.! Come meet the bunny of your dreams in our "get-acquainted" play area; talk with our rabbit expert; learn about care of these comical adorable pets; and shop for the best supplies for a healthy happy bunny.

All MHS bunnies are already neutered or spayed and have been checked for parasites. Each comes with a free book on rabbit care, too! The adoption fee is just $20 for a single bunny or $30 for a pair. Bring your family to meet the bunnies today! Adoption fee may be paid in cash, check or charge (Visa/MC/Discover) and bunny hops home with you in a carrying box. Adopters must have current valid photo identification and be at least 18 years of age. Adopters must be prepared to purchase or provide an appropriate living space (exercise pen or roomy cage) for their new pet, plus a litterbox and paper pellet litter, bowls, toys, and hay/pellets and daily salad greens. All MHS adoptions carry our 60-day money-back guarantee and each bunny comes with a 10-day free MHS vet visit offer.

Soot is a 1-year-old, Flemish Giant rabbit with beautiful gray fur. Large bunnies are generally a little less excitable than small ones, and they make wonderful family pets. Soot was surrendered to the Michigan Humane Society because his previous owner was unable to keep him. Soot is neutered and all ready to hop into your home and heart--will you get a salad ready for him? Rabbits should be handled (gently, of course) daily so they get socialized. As a member of the family, Soot should be included in daily interaction. He loves to jump around outside of his cage – you can find rabbit enclosures where you can let him hang out along with some toys and water where he can be out of his cage for a break.

Rabbits have a life span of 7-10 years. They need good quality rabbit pellets daily for adult rabbits. Quantities should be limited depending on weight for adults. Rabbits also need timothy or other grass hay daily. They also enjoy lots of vegetables including carrots, carrot tops, beet tops, dandelion greens, kale, collard greens, escarole, romaine lettuce, endive, Swiss chard, parsley, clover, cabbage, broccoli florets, green peppers, pea pods, Brussels sprouts and, basil. They require at least three different types of vegetables daily. About one heaping cup to five pounds of weight should be given daily. Fruits are treats and rabbits should not have more than two heaping tablespoons per four pounds of body weight daily. Water should always be available and containers should be cleaned and refilled daily.
