Sandy's Story

Hello there! My name is Sandy, and I’m very happy to meet you! Let me tell you a little bit about myself. To begin with, I am an adorable white bunny with eyes the color of rubies. My foster mom describes me as sweet, curious and playful. I love to knock down the towers of plastic stacking cups she works so hard to build--so much fun! I also love chew toys of all kinds—I toss them around and occasionally drop them in my water dish (they make such a nice plopping sound when I do that)!
My morning routine is very important to me. When my foster mom walks in my room to feed me bright and early, I go over to what I fondly call the “treat closet” and I get up on my hind legs and look as sweet and cute as I possibly can. She then gives me a single treat before putting dry food in my food dish. Then she comes back over to me, and after I finish the treat, I go up on my hind legs again and give her a kiss. She LOVES this---and I call it “Pawsitive Reinforcement”—ingenious, don’t you think? I want to keep my morning treat ritual—I worked hard to train her, and I need to keep it going!
I really like all kinds of food: hay, greens of all kinds, and small pieces of fruit. One of my favorite things is a toy and a treat combined—a hay cube. Those are one of the coolest inventions ever! I can carry them around, toss them, chew on them and eat them! I also like to sprawl on the floor and chill while licking the carpet where I’ve just finished eating a hay cube. I like to clean up after myself!
I’ve started to really like my daily snuggle sessions with my foster mom. At first, I was a little wary of her, but she picked me up and carried me over to a nice soft pet bed, and began petting my head, ears and back and giving me cheek rubs—all while I am lounging in luxury on the soft bed. . .then I realized it wasn’t so bad, and I really liked it! If she stops, I will sometimes nudge her with my nose or give her “the look” so she goes right back to petting me. I also let her know when I’m done by hopping away. She gets the message and respects my wishes.
A few more things you should know about me: I would prefer a quieter home, as loud noises tend to scare me. I like to be able to run around so wouldn’t mind being a free roam bunny or at least having a lot of time to run around—and I prefer carpet under my feet. I haven’t yet mastered walking on hard wood floors. I have very good litterbox habits, and keep my pen area very organized (although, admittedly this involves moving around the furniture since my foster mom never knows where it’s supposed to go!). I might also like a bunny friend—I sometimes groom the carpet or my stuffed animal friend and think I’d enjoy the company of another bunny. I’d love to meet you!!

If you think I sound interesting, send an email to MCRS at --> info@mncompanionrabbit.org

You can complete an application at --> https://www.mncompanionrabbit.org/adoption-application

All MCRS rabbits are sterilized, microchipped, and vaccinated against RHDV2. Thank you for being interested in adopting a homeless rabbit!

Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society's Adoption Policy
Rabbits available through the Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society are all homeless rabbits taken in through partnerships with local animal shelters and animal control facilities. The rabbits have been examined by veterinarians, are sterilized and are currently cared for by private foster homes. The goal of the MCRS adoption program is to match these rabbits with families like yours to best accommodate the needs and interest of both. The MCRS adoption process includes an application, a phone interview, and a meeting with the rabbit(s) you are interested in. The adoption fee for a single rabbit is $100 (plus tax), and a bonded pair fee is $165 (plus tax). This fee is nonrefundable because adoption fees help to cover costs involved in caring for a rabbit prior to his/her adoption. Each rabbit receives RHDV2 vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery. In addition to daily care, foster rabbits benefit from socialization and litter-box training during their stay with MCRS. We are located in the Twin Cities metro area in Minnesota. We do not ship rabbits and must meet all adopters in person. If you are interested in adopting a rabbit, please email us to receive an application and other rabbit adoption and care materials. Thank you for your interest in adopting a homeless rabbit!
