Come meet the bunny of your dreams in our "get-acquainted" play area; talk with our rabbit expert; learn about care of these comical adorable pets; and shop for the best supplies for a healthy happy bunny. Sammi is just one year old and weighs 3-1/2 lbs. She was brought to our Detroit shelter by her owner who had small children who were too much for her. Sammi will be appearing first at our Dearborn Rabbit Adoption Event on Saturday, from 11 to 3 at the PetSmart store at Mercury and Ford Road. Adopters must also be prepared to purchase or provide an appropriate living space (exercise pen or roomy cage) for their new pet, plus a litterbox and paper pellet litter, bowls, toys, and hay/pellets and daily salad greens. They need good quality timothy rabbit pellets daily for adult rabbits. Quantities should be limited depending on weight for adults. Rabbits also need timothy or other grass hay daily. They also enjoy lots of vegetables including carrot tops, beet tops, dandelion greens, escarole, romaine lettuce, endive, Swiss chard, parsley, clover, and basil. They require at least three different types of vegetables daily. About one heaping cup to five pounds of weight should be given daily. Fruits and carrots are treats and rabbits should not have more than two heaping tablespoons per four pounds of body weight daily.
