Mr. Miyagi's Story
This ruby-eyed gentlebun is Mr. Miyagi. His age reveals his wisdom--he has seen both the good and bad in people. We are going to ensure that for the rest of his life, he only experiences the good that humans have to offer.

Based on what we know of his history, we are fairly certain that he is over 7 years old. In terms of his personality, Mr. Miyagi is loving, but skittish. He doesn't like being touched unexpectedly--that is, when he can't tell what's touching him--and reacts by jumping around to defend himself. When he knows you're going to touch him--by keeping your hands in his eyesight before doing so--he loves head rubs, ear rubs, nose rubs, and even some back rubs. Because he is easily startled, we do not recommend that children be allowed to interact with him, and he likely would not do well with other, non-rabbit, animals.

Although a mixed breed, he did inherit enough Angora genes to have the long, fuzzy coat common to the breed. As such, he must be brushed frequently to prevent mats, and his fur trimmed periodically, to keep it manageable.

Mr. Miyagi wasn't neutered until after he came into our care, and before his neuter operation, several bumps or lumps of unknown origin were found on his skin in several places. During his neuter operation, the vet lasered off several of them, and in the process was able to determine that they were not abscesses and probably weren't tumors. Although the exact nature isn't known, we believe that they may be scar tissue from possible burn spots. Other than those, and an undescended testicle that required an abdominal incision to remove, he was found to be in good health. He does seem to have some vision problems, even when the fur around his eyes is cut short, which could be a contributing factor to why he startles easily. We don't know if that is simply due to his age, genetics, or if he just doesn't always pay attention to what's in front of him until it's very close.

We got him from an older, partly-disabled gentleman whose in-home caregiver had been dismissed. She (and her boyfriend) left Mr. Miyagi behind. Based on several things the homeowner told us, we think, but cannot prove, that his previous owners may have tormented him with hot objects, possibly including drug paraphernalia. If true, this would explain the lumps as well as his defensive response to unexpected touches. Despite this, he remains a loving bunny, and so we believe that he wasn't obtained by his previous owners until adulthood.

* Our adoption fee for a single rabbit is $75.
