Rainbow Rescue & Retreat's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting with Rainbow Rescue & Retreat! Our goal is to match our rescues with the right loving homes. As such, we do not process adoptions on a "first available" basis. During this process we ask questions, perform a home visit, and meet & greet to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone involved. There are many factors to take into consideration before adopting an animal. Falling in love with an adorable pet is easy, but it is a big commitment to welcome them into your home and life. 1.) Application: Complete the appropriate adoption application for the animal you are interested in in its entirety. 2.) Screening: Upon receipt of the application we will check all references- personal, veterinary, and the appropriate leasing office/landlord. Please be sure to notify your references we will be contacting them. 3.) Home Visit / Meet & Greet: If references meet standards, we will schedule a home visit to verify the home is a right fit for the animal. Afterwards, a meet-and-greet is scheduled with the potential adopter and their other pet(s). For individuals 25 miles or more from the foster, a $20 fee is required to cover transportation expenses. 4.) Approval: Once the application is approved, the Adoption Agreement must be completed with Verification of Government Issued Photo Identification. 5.) Payment: The adoption fee is due at the time of transferal of ownership. Check-ins occurs two weeks after adoption. Vet checks occur periodically after adoption. FEES: All dogs and cats are up-to-date on vaccinations and flea/tick treatment, wormed, microchipped, and spayed/neutered. Note: If the pet is too young for a spay/neuter, your adoption fee covers the cost of the procedure for when your animal is of age. You will be required to bring cat/dog to our vet for this procedure. This can be done as early as 3 months. We schedule the spay/neuter before the adoption agreement is signed. The adoption is not complete until the animal has been spayed/neutered. Any kitten/puppy not altered by the age of 6 months, must have a vet statement explaining the reason for delay. Any unaltered kitten/puppy must be returned and adoption will not be finalized at six months, unless there is a valid medical reason for delay.) Dogs: $200, Unless otherwise Listed Cats: $150, Unless otherwise Listed Other Small Animals: Please Inquire individually via our Contact Form as small and exotic animals have different requirements.
