Luke and Leia's Story
Luke and Leia are finally ready – they are available adoption! Luke (grey neutered male) and Leia (brown spayed female) are a bonded brother and sister pair; they must be adopted together and must not be separated.

Luke and Leia were found outside as abandoned babies and were brought to a local wildlife sanctuary as their finder did not realize they were domestic rabbits. The sanctuary took them in and cared for them until approximately 1 year of age when they transferred them into our care. They are now approximately two years old and have spend their time with us being socialized and working on their dental health.

We believe Luka and Leia to be American Sable bunnies. They are medium sized rabbits and do require some regular brushing to help shed their soft undercoat. Upon coming into rescue, both of their teeth were not to the point of needing any dental work however their dental health was not the greatest due to being on a diet of mainly pellets. We slowly transitioned them off a pellet diet (we use them as treats only now) and got them used to eating mainly hay, as well as their veggies and greens. We also provide a coarser oat hay often to help them wear their teeth down.

Luke and Leia have come leaps and bounds with their confidence, however, remain on the shyer side. They are looking for a low to medium activity level home that is not often filled with loud noises or sudden movements. They could be adopted to a home with age-appropriate children (7+) who will respect a rabbit’s prey nature and who aren’t too flighty or rambunctious. They enjoy having lots of cardboard boxes to hide in and a good comfy blanket to stretch out and snuggle on. They prefer their affection in the form of spending time nearby their human with occasional pets but will likely never be lap bunnies or huge cuddle bugs.

It is important to pay close attention to the dental health of any rabbit, however as Luke and Leia did have some yellowing and pitting in their teeth (since corrected by a good diet), it will be important for their future home to pay close attention to their teeth and ensure to take their veterinarian’s recommendations as to how they can be preventative against dental disease in the future (we can provide some tips and advice received from our veterinarians upon adoption as well!).

As with all our rabbits, we will not adopt Luke and Leia to a home where they will spend all day in a cage. The majority of commercially available cages are too small for one rabbit, let alone two! We wish to see our rabbits thrive in a home where they have room to exercise, stretch out and play. Whether that be a large x-pen enclosure, a room to themselves or free roam of a home.
