Meet Leo

Leo is a Courtesy Listing and is not housed at the Animal Shelter. Please note that the City of Bloomington Animal Care & Control accepts no responsibility for this pet. Potential adopters are responsible for communicating directly with the pet's guardian. Leo has been with me for the past 4 years, and it is hard to find a better pet as a companion that wants to hang out with you at home! Unfortunately, I am moving out of the country, and cannot take him with me. Once he gets to know you, he is very friendly (especially when he knows you have blueberries as a treat). I first adopted him after he was a stud rabbit for 4H for his first 3 years. Although it takes some time for him to make friends, once he does, he loves to get little head scratches and pets, bumping his head against your hand for more. While he is very friendly, this is only once he feels comfortable and has taken some time to adjust to the change of surroundings and people. If he wants alone time, Leo usually retreats to another area or returns to his cage for some rest. He does have a cage where he is (mostly) litter-boxed trained and prefers to sleep. When I am out of the house or asleep for the night, I put Leo back in the cage. During the day, I ensure he has room to run around and play, usually in the mornings and evenings. I would suggest that since he is not used to other animals in the house, he would do well in a home where he will be the only pet, has a quiet environment for him to sleep during the day/night, and owners that can be very gentle when handling him. Dogs and cats at the house were curious, but I would recommend against any owners trying to introduce him to these animals, as he is on the smaller side (3 lbs) and is a prey animal. Additionally, I would consider his grooming needs, as there are many with a long-haired rabbit. This can be especially difficult as Leo is not the biggest fan of being brushed. As Leo was my first rabbit, I would like to add that while I am so happy and think he was an amazing pet and such a sweet addition to my life, there is quite a bit of work to take care of him that I was not expecting. However, his gentleness and wonderful companionship, whether watching movies together, reading, or hanging out, was amazing! I would love to see him in a home that will take care of and love him as much as I have enjoyed!
