Gumdrop aka Gummy 's Story
Gumdrop (Gummy 💖) is a 2.5 year old spayed female mini Lop mix who is a very special gal.

Gumdrop came to us in rough shape. She had lots of urine staining, muscle loss, eye and ear problems, and significant mobility issues. She started receiving vet care right away where it was determined that she had significant trauma to her spine (suspected from a previous animal bite), which made the right side of her body much weaker than the left. This gives her some issues with her mobility and ability to groom herself, but she continues to make small strides over time. She is looking for a truly unique home who can patiently cater to her needs. She will need help with keeping clean, particularly her hind end, ears, and eyes. We have been trimming her fur near her bum every few weeks to help keep grooming easier for her. She will also need help with monitoring her eyes since her tear ducts are likely scarred over, and patience with litterbox use. At first we weren't even sure if she would be able to get in and out of a litterbox normally, but now that we know she can, we are working on getting her acclimated. We are not certain if she will ever be completely litterbox trained because there is a chance she has some incontinence issues due to her previous spinal trauma. She will also need special attention paid to her ability to get around, since she will be predisposed to more arthritis despite her young age. She is not currently on any daily medications, but does take a supplement for her joint health and does take anti-inflammatories if she seems uncomfortable or stiff. She is VERY enthusiastic about her medicine and takes it willingly.

When meeting new people, her go-to method of introduction is a firm but gentle nose boop. She is very curious about her surroundings and likes to take her time gently exploring the world on her own terms. With that being said, I have never seen a rabbit move faster than her when it's time for pellets or Meloxicam. She appreciates a warm place to hang out on colder days, likely due to her orthopedic issues, and is always grateful for an extra snack before bedtime. She enjoys lounging and snoozing in the sunshine. With her hearing loss, she does not seem to mind or care. Sometimes I think she actually uses it to her advantage when she is doing something naughty and wants to ignore me trying to get her attention (like flinging her toys directly into her full water bowl).

We don't know what Gummy's long term prognosis is, but we believe her current quality of life is good. She will need very regular trips to the vet to ensure that she's comfortable.
