Big Bertha Update!

About 3.5 months ago we got a message about a dumped bunny.

Even though we were completely full, something about the situation felt a bit off, so we took her in anyway.

Thank goodness we did.

When we picked her up, Bertha couldn’t lift her head. She wouldn’t eat. She wouldn’t move. Her body was shutting down.

We rushed her to our vet where she spent 5 days hospitalized while the team worked nonstop to save her life. And somehow…she pulled through.

We later learned what happened.

A man, in the apartment complex where she was dumped, had been leaving out antifreeze to poison stray cats. Because antifreeze tastes sweet and she had likely been dumped without access to water, Bertha drank it.

Her organs were shutting down. She became blind. It truly looked like we were going to lose her.

But Big Bertha had other plans.

Today she can see again, she’s fully vetted, and she’s feeling much better about life. She’s still a litt

She’s still a little spicy at times (which is fair after everything she’s been through), but she’s also curious, strong, and very much enjoying being alive.

A few notes about Miss Bertha:
- She prefers to be a single bunny
- She’s very independent
- She has excellent litter box habits

She’s a fighter. And now she deserves the peaceful, safe life that someone tried to take from her.
