Alpaca's Story
About Alpaca:

Alpaca arrived into ORR’s care on August 4, 2024. She was transferred to us from a wonderful Ontario shelter who thought she would have a better chance of finding her forever home in a foster based rescue environment. Alpaca had arrived to the shelter extremely matted and they did a wonderful job of bring her coat back to health through dedicated grooming. We had been advised that she had chronic runny eyes, that were being treated with medications.

Aly is the sweetest little cloud you could ever meet. We discovered after her arrival into our care that she is deaf. She can be a little grumpy, but it is always all talk (grunts) and never any bite. We chalk this up to her being slightly more defensive due to her being deaf. If approached with respect and care, she absolutely loves attention and will purr for days (especially for ear rubs).

With her being an Angora, her new family will need to be committed to consistent grooming to keep her gorgeous coat healthy and tangle free. Brushing every other day is required, at minimum. She will also require trims, especially around her eyes and bum to keep her nice and clean and able to see! She is very co-operative for these trims for her new family to learn how to do, or she would be happy to have a professional do the job if her family was willing to pay.

Alpaca has chronic weepy eyes that we have investigated since her coming into our care. They will require long term maintenance to keep her tear duct inflammation down. They respond well to gentle massage near the tear ducts, eye baths to keep the eye area clean and even gentle laser therapy! We can show her forever family how to properly take care of her eyes, it only takes a few minutes a day to keep her comfortable!

Written by my foster mom, Alexa:

“Have you ever wanted a laid back puffball who acts like a grandma? Look no further than Alpaca!

This beautiful girl pretends to be a grumpy pants and communicates with grunts, but it’s all a bit of an act and adds to her charm! Alpaca is deaf but that doesn’t stop her from having quite the character. Just be gentle as you approach her so you don’t spook her.

Alpaca has the option to free roam my whole house, but chooses a cozy corner in my bedroom to stick to and doesn’t wander far from her safe space. She has foster cat and dog siblings which she co-exists with perfectly, but generally prefers her own company.

She LOVES her spa days which consist of brushing, pets and nail trims. I like to think she enjoys watching the Youtube videos that I put on for her. She will also happily grunt and hop over for snacks, especially her favourite - blueberries! If you are looking for a super affectionate rabbit and social rabbit, Alpaca may not be for you as she is more of an introvert, but if you’re like me you will be happy to have this little puff monster who likes to hide under your bed!

Alpaca is fully litter box trained BUT she is a pompom! Hay, litter, and other bits get stuck to her coat so sometimes she accidentally brings a bit of the mess outside of the litterbox with her. Keeping her coat trimmed short around her bum helps with this a lot!"
