Merlin Shiba Inu Chicago, IL

Merlin is a gorgeous, gentle, and cuddly gentleman! At 12 1/2, he's still still an active, curious, playful pup, and loves going for long walks. Merlin wound up in a shelter through no fault of his own after his life-long owner passed away. Merlin wants nothing more than to be by your side in a loving home. Merlin enjoys the outdoors and has the smooth gait of a well-bred show dog - tail curled and wagging, head held high and smiling. He never pulls on the leash and doesn't get distracted by other dogs or small prey--a real dream to go on walks with! He knows how to sit, lay down, and will do just about anything for you if you have the right treat. He rarely barks or whines. He is well behaved with young kids - very tolerant of their curious hands. He is currently living with 4 foster siblings--1 Shiba, 1 Miniature Pinscher, 1 Rabbit and 1 Chihuahua. Merlin would be happy as an only dog or with a laid-back, easy-going dog. Merlin is great with cats and other small animals. Merlin is in good overall health. When he first came to his foster home, they noticed that he drank a lot and had to pee more often than typical for a Shiba. After a thorough vet exam ruled out any medical causes, the veterinarian believes that it is a compulsive behavior (perhaps from the trauma of losing his home and human) and prescribed medication that is helping. He has stopped having accidents and he no longer needs to wear a belly band overnight. Merlin's foster mom has even been able to decrease his medication and hopes he may be medication-free in the future. This 20lb boy is vetted current on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. Like his name, we believe he is a magical little man! Merlin would love to find a home that has time to spend with him and a fenced yard to play in.
